League of Legends - Spirit Blossom

Teaming up with The Line and Riot Games, I couldn’t say anything else but “YES!” when asked if I wanted to take on the 2D motion parts of their 2025 Spirit Blossom film.

The sections I was part of, creating the mythical sequences, were one of the biggest challenges of the film, and The Line aimed to capture the timeless feel of Japanese woodblock prints while making the visuals stand out from the rest of the film.

Role: 2D Motion Design

At its heart, this film is all about connection, whether it’s families coming together, an ancient culture reconnecting, or two worlds colliding.

On sequences featuring characters like Ashe, Lux, Nidalee or Irelia, The Line leaned further into this duality. Ashe’s scenes through mythic Ionia were designed to feel like stepping into a living storybook -fluid, vibrant, and filled with motion. Lux’s sequence, centered around the motif of light, used heavily textured animation, visually representing her connection to the spirit world and the tension within it.

My role in those scenes was to figure out what should be 2d cel and what After Effects motion, animating the camera movement, backgrounds, trees and canopies, elements and the patterns surrounding the characters.
Next you can find some of those moments, where you can see how in I integrated the masterfully animated characters with the environment designs.
